Processes & Procedures

This event has all the advantages of a major conference, while retaining the friendliness and informality of a workshop. It has three separate consecutive sessions, long time allotments for each paper, with a Session Chair and Discussant for each session.

This is a Workshop which is co-created. The Workshop format will provide short, lively sessions designed to stimulate debate and discussion, the emergence of new research ideas and the future of services marketing and marketing. The purpose of the Workshop is to stimulate exchange between managers and academics and to initiate advanced service science research topics. The Workshop is designed to foster an open “ecosystem” of collaborative partnerships between businesses, universities, and technology suppliers, and encourage professional learning from the workplace.

Here are some guidelines:

For Participants:
This is your Workshop, requested by you and co-created by you. This is a very friendly and open conference for “service folk” to network and exchange ideas, so don’t hesitate to jump in with your contributions and ideas. Especially for PhD students, this is your chance to meet the leaders in your field on a friendly and warm basis. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, introduce yourself to participants, and discuss research.

For Session Chairs:
Prepare a “Research Brief” of about 5 minutes or 5-8 PowerPoint slides to introduce your area, designed to provoke discussion. Prepare some “back-up” questions to address if participants need prodding.

Session Aims:
Critical review of area; recent, “strong” research
Gaps in the literature
Future directions, research opportunities
Most useful lines of enquiry

For Keynote Speakers:
You have been invited as a key leader in the field, to generate discussion and further the thinking in your area. Aim to speak for about 40 minutes, and lead a discussion for about 20 minutes.
